Une entreprise multinationale renommée a été victime d'une escroquerie financière sophistiquée utilisant l'intelligence artificielle, perdant 200 millions de dollars de Hong Kong (environ 126,5 millions de reais), selon un rapport du South China Morning Post cité par Folha de S. Paulo.

L’arnaque a commencé par un message de phishing, qui servait d’appât pour établir un contact. Les criminels ont ensuite utilisé des images publiques du directeur financier de l'entreprise, qui se trouvait au Royaume-Uni, pour créer une représentation convaincante de lui et d'autres personnalités clés.

Enfin, ils ont utilisé la technologie deepfake lors d’un appel vidéo avec des employés du service financier de la multinationale.

Grâce à cela, les fraudeurs ont réussi à inciter les victimes à effectuer un total de 15 virements vers des comptes bancaires à Hong Kong. Les virements frauduleux ont été dirigés vers cinq comptes bancaires situés sur le territoire, ce qui indique que les escrocs y ont opéré, au moins en partie. La police n'a pas identifié l'entreprise ni les employés.

L’utilisation du deepfake dans la fraude financière représente un nouveau défi en matière de cyberattaques. L'affaire marque un chapitre alarmant dans les attaques contre les entreprises et met en évidence la vulnérabilité par rapport aux technologies avancées.

Deepfake : ce n’est que le début

Les escroqueries liées à l’intelligence artificielle (IA), telles que les deepfakes et les deepvoices, représentent un grand danger pour Internet.

Par exemple, rien qu’en janvier, la chanteuse américaine Taylor Swift a été victime de la technologie à deux reprises. Au début du mois, elle a promis à ses followers les ustensiles de cuisine Le Creuset. À la fin du mois, des images d'elle à contenu sexuel sont devenues virales sur les réseaux sociaux. Les deux contenus sont des deepfakes, une technologie d’IA utilisée pour créer de fausses photos et vidéos de vraies personnes.
